The West Siang district NCORD Committee recently organized a comprehensive awareness program on child protection and drug abuse, with the theme ‘Together We Can: Safeguarding Our Children from Drugs & Abuse’, at the Government Secondary School in Darka. The event aimed to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and its consequences on individuals, families, and society. It also sought to educate children, parents, and teachers on ‘good touch, bad touch’ and the provisions of the POCSO Act, as well as create awareness on the NDPS Act 1985, Motor Vehicles Act 1988, and other relevant laws. The program was conducted in collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including the district police, Department of Education, ICDS, Department of Health, Mother Vision, Arunachal Pradesh Women’s Welfare Society, and Fellowship Arunachal Recovery Community.
Students, teachers, and school management committee members participated in the program, and all participants took the ‘Together We Can: Safeguarding Our Children from Drugs & Abuse’ pledge. The District NCORD Committee has decided to conduct awareness programs every Saturday across various schools in West Siang district, reinforcing its commitment to a drug-free and safe environment for the children and youths of the region. As part of this commitment, the committee plans to cover at least two schools in the district every month.
