Assam is emerging as the Northeast’s healthcare hub, with Mizoram being the latest state to join the Assam Cancer Care Foundation’s (ACCF) network, enabling cancer patients from the neighbouring state to receive cashless treatment at the foundation’s cancer hospitals across Assam.
According to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the partnership between Mizoram and the ACCF is a major step in strengthening access to quality and affordable cancer treatment for people across the Northeast. The agreement allows cancer patients from Mizoram to avail cashless treatment at hospitals run by the ACCF under the Mizoram Universal Healthcare Scheme (MUHCS).
This development follows similar arrangements with Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, where beneficiaries receive treatment under their respective state health insurance schemes - the Chief Minister Arogya Arunachal Yojana (CMAAY) and the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS). The Assam Cancer Care Foundation, a joint initiative of the Assam government and the Tata Trusts, has been expanding specialised oncology services across the state through a network of dedicated cancer hospitals.
The initiative aims to reduce the burden on patients who earlier had to travel to metropolitan cities outside the Northeast for advanced cancer treatment. With the latest interstate collaboration, Assam is expected to reinforce its role as a regional centre for advanced healthcare services in the Northeast, improving access to specialised oncology care for patients from neighbouring states.
Chief Minister Sarma described the agreement as another significant milestone in Assam’s emergence as the country’s new healthcare hub. He expressed his pleasure in sharing the development on social media, highlighting the importance of the partnership in providing quality and affordable cancer treatment to people across the Northeast.
The partnership between Mizoram and the ACCF is expected to have a positive impact on the healthcare landscape of the Northeast, providing patients with better access to specialised oncology care and reducing the financial burden on them.
