The Upper Siang Narco Coordination Committee recently convened a meeting to review the progress made by various stakeholders in combating the drug menace in the district. The meeting, which was presided over by Assistant Commissioner Binti Libang, emphasized the need for sustained awareness campaigns, preventive measures, and collective responsibility to address the growing challenge of substance abuse. Libang urged all members to take the resolutions of the NCORD Committee seriously and intensify coordinated efforts towards making Upper Siang a drug-free district.
Dr Mity Jopir, chairperson of the Sikiing Koje Charitable Society, advocated for a multi-pronged approach to tackle the drug menace. She stressed the importance of greater participation and close coordination among community-based organizations, non-governmental organizations, the police, and the district administration to create a strong community-led movement against substance abuse. DSP Gocham Sakter also spoke at the meeting, highlighting the need for a collective effort to combat the issue.
The meeting saw the participation of officials from various departments and representatives from the Adi Bane Kebang, Upper Siang unit. They shared their suggestions and experiences, emphasizing the need for a practical and coordinated approach to intensify public awareness, strengthen vigilance, and prevent the spread of drug and substance abuse across the district.
One of the key issues discussed during the meeting was the network problem in Katan circle. The committee strongly urged the SDO (telecom) to address the issue and ensure early restoration of connectivity. The meeting was a significant step towards strengthening the district’s fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
