A three-day workshop on ‘Protecting Every Child: Awareness, Action and Advocacy’ began on Saturday at the Nyedar Namlo in 6 Kilo, Itanagar. The workshop, organised by the Indian Council for Child Welfare, Arunachal Pradesh (ICCW-AP) in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA) and the Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (APSCPCR), aims to strengthen awareness and collective action towards ensuring the safety and well-being of children. The event has brought together educators, social workers, students, legal experts, and child rights advocates to discuss the importance of protecting children’s rights.

Welcoming the participants, ICCW chief adviser Jarjum Ete stressed the need for society to work together in creating a safe and nurturing environment for every child. She encouraged the participants to use the workshop as an opportunity to learn, share experiences, and become stronger advocates for children’s rights. Tadu Tamang spoke on the importance of awareness, action, and advocacy in child protection, noting that protecting children is not only a legal duty but also a moral responsibility that requires the involvement of families, communities, institutions, and government agencies.

Desai Linggi, founder of Nani Maria Society, shared her experiences working with vulnerable children and spoke on preventing child abuse and neglect. She highlighted the importance of adoption in providing care, security, and a loving family environment for children in need. The workshop featured awareness sessions on child marriage, child abuse, cyber safety, and digital parenting, drawing attention to the challenges children face both offline and online.

The participants were encouraged to play an active role in protecting children from harmful practices and ensuring that their rights are respected. Psychiatric social worker Thakri Kara engaged participants through practical activities and role-play exercises designed to help them better understand children’s emotional and developmental needs. The first day’s sessions concluded with a presentation by Murang Ajom on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, where he explained the legal safeguards available to children and the importance of timely reporting of abuse cases.

The workshop will continue until 29 June, providing participants with knowledge and practical skills to promote child welfare and build safer communities for children across Arunachal.
