In observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Ri-Bhoi Police in Meghalaya intensified its anti-drug awareness campaign by conducting a series of programmes across schools, colleges, and public spaces in the district. The campaign, which focused on educating children and young people, was part of the theme ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan – Viksit Bharat Ki Pehchaan,’ highlighting the need to build a drug-free India through awareness, prevention, and community participation. In the days leading up to June 26, police personnel from various police stations and outposts organised awareness sessions to educate students about the dangers of drug abuse, its long-term impact on health and society, and the importance of making informed, healthy choices.
These programmes were conducted at multiple educational institutions and community venues across the district, including the CFC Hall, Umsning, Mahatma Gandhi University, Patharkmah Higher Secondary School, and several other schools and community venues. The awareness drives were held at various locations, including Lamalong LP School, Khanapara Bazar, Umshru RMSA Secondary School, Mynken Christian Higher Secondary School, Durbar Hall at 5th Mile Kyrdemkulai, and Kendriya Vidyalaya, NEPA. Through these initiatives, the Ri-Bhoi Police reiterated the importance of preventing substance abuse through education and early intervention, encouraging children and youth to adopt healthy lifestyles and stay away from narcotic substances.
The district police also appealed to the public to actively support the fight against drugs and work collectively towards a drug-free Meghalaya.
