A Khet Bachao Abhiyan programme was held in Pakke-Kessang district on Friday, with 34 farmers and farmwomen participating in the event. The programme was organised by the East Kameng Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) based in Pampoli, in collaboration with the district agriculture office (DAO) team. Natural Farming Takes Centre Stage. The event featured an intensive awareness-cum-training programme on natural farming, with technical sessions led by a team of subject matter experts.
Dr W Purnima Devi, A Pandey, and Habung Ganga were among the experts who delivered detailed insights into key agricultural pillars. Focus on Sustainable Practices. The experts focused on soil health management, land conservation, and climate-resilient practices rooted in the principles of natural farming. The programme aimed to educate farmers on sustainable farming methodologies and encourage them to adopt scientific, high-productivity farming practices. Government Welfare Schemes.
The KVK and DAO team also educated the attendees on critical government welfare schemes designed to secure rural livelihoods. Farmers were encouraged to leverage initiatives such as PM-KISAN, the kisan credit card, the soil health card scheme, and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Interactive Session. The programme concluded with an interactive session, during which farmers from Taroyar and adjoining villages engaged directly with the experts to address localised agricultural challenges.
