In a remarkable community-driven initiative, the villagers, School Management Committee (SMC), alumni, and village panchayat leaders of Gusar circle in Upper Subansiri district have come together to revive the Bui Upper Primary School. The school had remained defunct for several years due to the absence of student enrolment. However, with the collective efforts of the community, the school is set to reopen soon, with the academic session set to commence soon.
The SMC has announced that education will be provided free of cost to all enrolled students. The decision to reopen the school gained momentum after Dumporijo MLA Rode Bui emphasized the importance of education in building human resources and shaping a better future. MLA Rode Bui stressed that ‘charity begins at home’ and expressed his determination to revive the school in his own village as an example for others to follow.
The revival initiative is being spearheaded by distinguished alumni, including retired executive engineer Rosuk Bui, Dr Molar Bui, and noted intellectual Payo Bui, along with other community members. The SMC has appealed to parents and guardians from Bui and neighbouring villages to enrol their children at the school, with the admission process scheduled to begin in the first week of July. The government will continue to provide basic facilities to the school as per existing norms, while any additional requirements will be met by the committee and the local community through voluntary support.
To further strengthen the quality of education, the SMC has decided to engage private teachers to provide daily tuitions to students, ensuring better academic support and improved learning outcomes. The revival of the Bui Upper Primary School is being seen as an inspiring example of community participation in strengthening the education sector, and may serve as a model for other villages facing similar challenges.
