The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) East Zone Williamnagar has called for a fresh independent inquiry into the murder of a young girl who was hacked to death in Samgong locality last year. The union has expressed concern that despite the passing of one year, the accused in the case remains at large. In a representation to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the union pointed out that a magisterial inquiry into the incident has already been conducted, but no visible action has been taken on its findings.
The union noted that while it was learnt that magisterial inquiry into the incident has already been conducted, no visible action has been taken on the findings nor any officer or authority been held accountable for lapses, if any. The victim’s family has yet to receive any compensation, support, or reassurance from the government or justice. The GSU has urged the government to intervene and order a fresh independent inquiry or constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to thoroughly examine all aspects of the case.
The union has also demanded the expedited arrest of the accused and action against anyone found negligent in the discharge of their duties.
