The Upper Subansiri district administration, in collaboration with the district police, conducted a surprise inspection and enforcement drive across Daporijo township on the evening of 2 July. The operation was carried out under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo and SP Pawan Kumar Yadav, with the joint enforcement team led by Town Magistrate Deewan Mara and DSP (HQ) Lukchi Kamcham. The goal of the operation was to curb immoral activities, illegal gambling, and other unlawful practices that threaten public peace and order.
During the surprise inspection of hotels, lodges, bars, and business premises, the team verified guest registers, checked occupants’ identities, and inspected rooms to ensure compliance with legal provisions. Several individuals were found indulging in illegal gambling activities, and gambling materials, along with cash, were seized on the spot by the police after observing all due legal procedures. A regular case has been registered at the police station, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the involvement of other persons, if any.
Hotel and business owners were instructed to maintain proper guest records, verify the identity of every visitor, and immediately report any suspicious activities to the police or the district administration. They were also warned that any establishment found facilitating or harbouring illegal activities would face strict legal action under the relevant provisions of law.
As part of the enforcement drive, the joint team established naka checking points at strategic locations throughout Daporijo township in collaboration with the district police traffic branch. The special checking was undertaken to curb the increasing incidents of drunken driving and riding, enforce traffic regulations, and enhance road safety.
The district administration and the district police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents. The public have been urged to cooperate with the administration and the police by reporting any information relating to gambling, immoral activities, drug abuse, drunken driving, or any other unlawful acts. Citizens have been reminded to refrain from engaging in illegal activities, as strict legal action would be initiated against all violators in accordance with the law.
