Pasighat West MLA Ninong Ering has urged the state and central governments to sanction funds for the restoration of roads, culverts, bridges, and other public infrastructure damaged by flash floods in East Siang district. Ering recently met with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in Itanagar to push for necessary initiatives to grant adequate funds under the Flood Damage Repair (FDR) scheme. The MLA’s call for action comes after his visit to flood and erosion-affected areas on Friday, where he took stock of the post-flood situation and the hardships faced by the people.
During his visit, Ering instructed officials to assess losses and damages caused by the recent flash flood and submit a renovation proposal under the FDR scheme. The flash floods, triggered by the overflow of rain-fed rivers and streams, have caused extensive damage to dwellings and other infrastructure in rural areas of Pasighat, Yagrung, Silley-Oyan, Ruksin, and Bilat circles of East Siang district. In Pasighat West, floodwater has inundated human habitations, crop fields, fishponds, vegetable farms, and horticulture gardens, leaving a trail of devastation.
The floods have also submerged National Highway 515 at three locations between Ruksin and Pasighat, disrupting road communication for several hours. Residents of flood-affected areas are facing a shortage of drinking water and essential items, adding to their woes. Ering’s efforts to secure FDR funds are aimed at providing relief to those affected by the floods and restoring normalcy in the region.
