The Uttar Pradesh Forest Department is set to organise Van Mahotsav from July 1 to 7, with a focus on tree plantation, environmental conservation, and public awareness. The event will feature an ‘Aam Bahaar, Aapke Dwar’ (mango saplings at your doorstep) campaign, which aims to promote the distribution of mango saplings across the state. Chief Conservator of Forests (Publicity), Aditi Sharma, highlighted the importance of tree plantation in the face of extreme heat and changing weather conditions, stating that the Yogi Adityanath government is prioritising environmental conservation and water conservation. The government has directed officials to focus on planting indigenous varieties of fruit-bearing trees, with a goal of raising awareness on the importance of forest and tree cover.
As part of the initiative, a large-scale ‘Aam Bhandara’ (mango feast) will be organised across the state, with mango distribution camps to be held in every development block. The public will be educated on the proper planting and maintenance of mango saplings, with the aim of promoting a plastic-free environment. In addition to Van Mahotsav, the state government plans to plant 350 million saplings this year, with department-wise and division-wise plantation targets already finalised.
The dates for the Mega Plantation Drive during the monsoon season will be announced soon.
