Union Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, conducted an aerial survey of flood-affected areas in Arunachal Pradesh on Wednesday to assess the extent of damage caused by heavy rains and flash floods. The survey was followed by a visit to Boying village in Pasighat, one of the worst-affected areas. The damage from the Sibo Korong River is massive, Chief Minister Khandu said in a social media post, adding that the team will work on a permanent flood protection solution to protect the people and their future. The team assessed the flood situation both from the air and on the ground before interacting with affected residents in Boying village.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said in a Facebook post that the Central Government stands firmly with the affected people and will continue to work closely with the state government to ensure timely relief, restoration, and rehabilitation. Chouhan said that the Central and state governments stand firmly with the people during this time of crisis, adding that large-scale damage has been caused to homes and agricultural land. The situation due to floods in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam is grave, he said. Meanwhile, a flash flood struck the NEEPCO Colony area at Posa on Tuesday morning, damaging houses, disrupting road connectivity, and triggering landslides in several locations.

Authorities have launched restoration work to clear roads blocked by debris, sludge, and boulders. Preliminary assessments indicate that around 18 houses in and around the NEEPCO Colony were damaged, and a 35-year-old woman lost her life in the incident, while 17 others sustained injuries. Chouhan, who is on a two-day visit to Arunachal Pradesh to assess the flood situation, assured that the Centre and the state government are working in close coordination and will together help the state overcome the ongoing crisis.

He expressed confidence that this difficult time would pass, and every possible effort for relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction would be made with complete sensitivity and commitment. The Union Minister said that even amidst the devastation of floods in Arunachal Pradesh, people’s resolve remained unshaken. Homes had been destroyed, and crops washed away, but the will to survive had not broken.

He noted that in Boing village, children, youth, and villagers came together to build a protection wall to prevent floodwaters from entering the village in the future. Chouhan, along with Rijiju and Khandu, on Tuesday evening also visited flood-affected villages by road and met with the affected people. He called on Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen K.T.

Parnaik (Retd.) at Lok Bhavan, Itanagar, and discussed recent flood damages along with strengthening irrigation, connectivity, and rural infrastructure, promotion of organic farming and high-value crops, skill development, agri-technology, and market linkages. The Governor apprised the Union Minister of the extensive damage caused by recent floods across several districts of Arunachal Pradesh and sought continued support from the Centre for relief, rehabilitation, and restoration of essential infrastructure and livelihoods.
