The Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) has announced that the 132/33 kv power sub-station in Miao, Changlang district, is scheduled to be commissioned by the end of July this year. The project, which has faced several delays over the years, is nearing completion with final testing and commissioning procedures currently underway. The sub-station is being established under the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening of Transmission and Distribution System (CSST&DS) for Arunachal Pradesh.
The construction of the 132 kv transmission line from Namsai to Miao has faced numerous hurdles, resulting in prolonged delays and causing immense inconvenience to the people of the region. Residents of Miao, Jairampur, and Bordumsa administrative subdivisions have struggled with inadequate and erratic power supply, relying heavily on neighbouring Assam for electricity. Frequent power disruptions and insufficient electricity have adversely affected daily life, business activities, educational institutions, healthcare services, and overall development.
The absence of a reliable power infrastructure has hindered industrial growth in the region, deterring entrepreneurs and investors from establishing industries and commercial ventures due to the uncertainty of power availability. This has left the region’s immense economic potential largely untapped, despite its strategic location and abundant natural resources.
The upcoming sub-station is viewed as a milestone infrastructure project that could usher in a new era of progress and prosperity for Miao, Jairampur, and Bordumsa. Once operational, it is expected to reduce dependence on external power sources and strengthen the region’s energy security. The commissioning of the Miao 132/33 kv power sub-station offers renewed hope that reliable electricity will become a catalyst for economic growth, infrastructure development, and improved quality of life for the people of the region.
