Padma Shri awardee Dr Rajnikant, popularly known as the ‘GI Man of India’, visited the NABARD’s Arunachal Pradesh regional office (RO) in Itanagar on Friday. During his visit, Dr Rajnikant held discussions with officials on NABARD’s interventions in the state for supporting rural artisans, weavers, craftsmen, farmers, FPOs, SHGs, and other stakeholders. NABARD GM SV Ranga Rao, AGM Vivek Anand, and other officers were present during the discussion.
The meeting also focused on NABARD’s role in supporting GI certification of various unique products of the state. Initiatives for promoting and preserving GI products were discussed in detail, aiming to promote livelihood opportunities and help rural communities benefit from their rich cultural and natural heritage. The NABARD has supported the highest number of GI sanctions and applications, and has supported all types of products, including several ethnic and tribal products.
Dr Rajnikant commended the proactive efforts of the NABARD to promote the state’s unique products. He emphasized the crucial role of GI tagging in preserving traditional knowledge, enhancing product value, and opening up better market opportunities for local communities. The NABARD commended the role of Dr Rajnikanth and his agency in guiding and supporting the NABARD’s efforts in the state towards GI tagging of products.
