A massive forest fire that broke out near the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports area in West Kameng district was brought under control following a swift and coordinated response by security personnel, police, and local residents. The fire erupted at around 2:30 pm on Sunday, just a few metres away from the Jyoti Nagar residential complex of the 30 Bn SSB, and spread over approximately 300 metres, posing a serious threat to nearby residential houses and public property. Personnel of the 30 Bn SSB, including its rapid rescue team, immediately rushed to the affected area and acted as the first responders.
The Dirang police, along with local residents, joined the firefighting efforts, and a fire tender from the police, its firefighting team, and a water tanker from the paramilitary force, supported by SSB personnel and local volunteers, worked together to bring the blaze under control. The timely intervention by local residents, SSB personnel, and the police demonstrated exemplary coordination and collective effort in ensuring public safety, preventing what could have been a major disaster. The successful operation embodied the SSB’s motto of ‘Service, Security and Brotherhood’, according to SSB officials, who commended the personnel involved in the operation.
