The Meghalaya and Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers and Street Vendors Association (MGSPHSVA) is hosting a public dialogue on Shillong’s urban challenges, marking the conclusion of its 10th anniversary celebrations. The discussion, titled ‘Why is Shillong Still Stuck?’ aims to focus on pressing issues such as traffic congestion, public transport, accessibility, inclusion, and the overall experience of navigating Shillong. Additionally, it will examine the promises and outcomes of the Smart City initiative.
This public dialogue follows a previous discussion held on June 26, which centered on ‘Building a People’s Digital Infrastructure that Benefits Workers.’ The event was jointly organized by the association along with TUR and SAFAR, bringing together workers from several districts to deliberate on how digital infrastructure can better serve the interests of workers. The upcoming event seeks to encourage citizens to move beyond expressing frustration over Shillong’s persistent traffic and infrastructure problems and instead engage in constructive discussions to identify practical solutions. The organizers aim to create a platform where residents can collectively envision a more accessible, inclusive, and liveable city for future generations.
An open invitation has been extended to all Shillong residents and interested members of the public to take part in the discussion.
