The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) has lifted restrictions on Indian ships navigating the Strait of Hormuz, while emphasizing the importance of vigilance and adherence to security protocols. This decision comes as the International Maritime Organization (IMO) works closely with coastal states and industry partners to establish measures for the evacuation of stranded seafarers through a coordinated mechanism. The DGS is closely monitoring the evolving situation in coordination with various government ministries, the Indian Navy, and other stakeholders to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian seafarers. The DGS has clarified that there are no restrictions for Indian ship owners and managers to operate in the Persian Gulf region, provided they follow the security protocols of coastal states and security agencies.
However, the DGS has advised all Indian seafarers, masters, and ship owners to exercise caution while operating in the Persian Gulf region. Masters of vessels are advised to maintain heightened security awareness, closely monitor navigational warnings, and implement all applicable ship security measures. The DGS has also instructed stakeholders to continuously monitor advisories issued by the government and to promptly report any incidents involving Indian seafarers. Furthermore, stakeholders are advised to verify the authenticity of news reports and videos through official government sources to avoid circulating unverified information.
These measures are in place to protect the interests and welfare of Indian seafarers.
