More than 200 farmers from the Tirap, Changlang and Longding region participated in a natural farming training programme held at the ADC office in Longding district on Sunday. The programme was organised by the Longding Krishi Vigyan Kendra to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices among the farmers. The event was attended by Agriculture and Allied Sectors Minister Gabriel D Wangsu, Arunachal Pradesh Food Commission Chairman TarhTarak, BJP Kisan Morcha president Gumsen Lollen, ZPMs, and other guests. Natural farming as a sustainable agricultural approach was highlighted by KVK Head Dr Utpal Kumar Bhattacharya, who explained that this approach emphasises the use of locally available natural resources and biological inputs while reducing dependence on chemical fertilisers and pesticides.
He noted that natural farming helps improve soil health, reduce cultivation costs, enhance environmental sustainability, and produce healthier agricultural products. The guests underscored the significance of natural farming in ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability and improving farmers’ livelihoods. They noted that the TCL region possesses abundant natural resources and favourable agro-climatic conditions, making it highly suitable for adoption of natural farming practices.
The farmers were encouraged to embrace eco-friendly and climate-resilient farming methods to enhance productivity while preserving the environment for future generations. On the occasion, the Agriculture Department distributed farm machinery, high-quality vegetable seeds, and certificates of appreciation to the farmers. Wangsu and other guests commended the KVK for organising the training programme, and acknowledged its continued contribution towards capacity building and agricultural development in the district.
The programme concluded with a collective call for greater awareness, wider adoption of natural farming practices, and strengthened collaboration among farmers, extension agencies, and government departments to achieve sustainable agricultural growth across the TCL region.
