Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) Research Complex for North Eastern Hill Region, Nagaland Centre, at Medziphema on Friday to review its ongoing research initiatives and contributions to agricultural development in the state. Scientists presented the Centre’s work in various areas, including crop improvement, integrated farming systems, horticulture, agroforestry, livestock development, fisheries, water conservation, and climate-resilient agriculture.

The Governor was briefed on various research projects, technology demonstrations, farmer outreach programmes, and capacity-building initiatives being undertaken across Nagaland. The presentation highlighted several achievements, including the development of drought-tolerant rice varieties, promotion of high-yielding crops, integrated farming models for small and marginal farmers, rainwater harvesting systems, and improved cultivation technologies for Naga King Chilli.

Scientists also showcased the Centre’s work in artificial insemination in pigs, conservation of indigenous livestock resources, and distribution of improved germplasm to farmers across the Northeast. The Governor toured the Centre’s experimental fields, nurseries, laboratories, livestock units, fisheries facilities, and processing units, interacting with scientists and staff members and appreciating their efforts in advancing agricultural research and supporting farmers.

Governor Yadav commended the institution for its role in enhancing agricultural productivity, promoting sustainable farming practices, and strengthening rural livelihoods in Nagaland. He stressed the need to translate scientific research into practical solutions that directly benefit farming communities and contribute to the state’s agricultural growth and food security. The visit concluded with discussions between the Governor and Centre officials on opportunities to strengthen agricultural innovation and farmer welfare initiatives in Nagaland.
