A major landslide has severed the Shillong-Dawki Road at Chainage 25+200, prompting the East Khasi Hills district administration to order its immediate closure beyond Laitlyngkot village. According to Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal, the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has informed the district administration that the road ahead of Laitlyngkot village is inaccessible and repair work is expected to take several days. The closure will remain in effect until further orders. In light of the situation, the district administration has advised residents, commuters, and tourists to avoid travelling along the Shillong-Dawki Road during the closure period.
As an alternative, travellers have been asked to use the Shillong–Sohra–Sohbar–Dawki route or the Shillong–Jowai–Amlarem–Dawki route. The district administration has urged commuters to follow diversion routes and directions issued by police, traffic personnel, and NHIDCL officials, plan their journeys in advance, and allow for additional travel time. Citizens have also been advised to follow weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and dial 112 in case of emergencies. The administration expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and sought public cooperation to ensure smooth traffic management and public safety.
