Manipur film ‘Battlefield’ nominated for MIFF 2026 screening

Imphal : After its successful world premiere at the 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), Manipur’s documentary film Battlefield has achieved another milestone by being nominated for screening in the International Competition section of the 19th Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) 2026.

The flagship festival is scheduled to be held in Mumbai from June 15 to 21, 2026. Directed by Borun Thokchom, Battlefield will compete alongside documentary films from across the globe in the feature-length documentary category.

Produced by Manjoy Lourembam, Dr. Radhesyam Oinam, and Viswamithra Universals, the documentary’s selection marks a significant achievement for Manipuri cinema on the international stage.

Speaking on the nomination, director Borun Thokchom “This is a proud moment not only for the film but also for the state and the entire film fraternity of Manipur,” he said.

Established in 1990 and held biennially, the Mumbai International Film Festival (MIFF) is the oldest and largest film festival dedicated to non-feature films in South Asia. Organized by the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, MIFF has evolved into a major global platform for documentary, short fiction, and animation films.

The 19th Mumbai International Film Festival will feature the Grand Opening and Closing Ceremonies. International and Indian Competitions comprising the Prestigious Golden and Silver Conch Awards and Cash Prizes worth Rs 55 Lakhs.

MIFF 2026 events will also comprise Gala Screenings, Red Carpets, Masterclasses, Panel Discussions, and Waves Doc Bazaar. According to officials, the 19th MIFF, 2026, received a record-breaking 1,459 entries from 47 countries.

Only a limited number of films were shortlisted for the competition, highlighting the festival’s growing global appeal and highly competitive selection process.
